2024 Update! I realised this post was from 2012 and horribly out of date with recommendations for brands which are no long allergy-safe.
Cocoa powder is a minefield if you need to strictly avoid any trace of milk and nuts. Here are the brands I currently rely on as safe:
- Dr Oertker
- Creative Nature (packed in an environment free-from nut and peanuts)
- Asda own brand cocoa powder
- Sevenhills Wholefoods cocoa powder ( They state all their products do not contain substances that cause allergies as ingredients or by cross contamination.)
- Aldi own brand cocoa powder

Excellent! It’s so hard to find dairy-free cocoa. I’ve found another, less widely available but better quality one. I’ll let you know the name later…

so glad I found this site I had been searching all day for dairy free cocoa and had no luck especially in marks and spencer which is also where I used to get mine so sent my friend to tesco and he came back with that so just wanted to be sure it was safe before carting my cousin away in an ambulance thank you so much 🙂

Hi Lucy, Tesco have put a milk warning on their cocoa powder now! Do you know of any milk free nut free cocoa powders currently out there? *crosses fingers*! 🙂

Thank you so much! I’ll ask mum to pick some up. So that’s Asda for cocoa powder, Morrisons for fondant icing, Tesco for breadsticks, and Sainsburys for school cartons of soy milk 😅

Thank you for all your brilliant recipes over the years that we have looked forward to receiving and enjoyed making as a family .
Our sons have a severe nut allergy and like many others navigating safe products to cook with is still problematic. We are finding it very difficult to find pumpkin.,sunflower seeds etcwhich are nutfree We wondered whether you had any on your safe list ?. We used to buy Styrian pumpkin seeds from a grower in Austria but since Brexit he has said it too difficult . We also used Good 4 U but as I bake a lot the very small packets were too small and they wouldn’t sell kg or catering sizes.as we are a family not a company . Have spoken directly to companies but frequently find they are not very clear about their products and everything is may contain nuts.

I’m so pleased you’ve been enjoying my recipes. I use the Zeina brand (on Amazon) which is free from peanuts and sesame – I think munchy seeds are good for peanut and treenut allergies (but May contain sesame) Hope that helps x
